CFA Faculty Fellow Awards
The CFA Faculty Fellow Award compliments the URC Faculty Fellow Awards (FFA). To be considered for the CFA award, faculty members must first apply for other reputable external and/or University level fellowship opportunities. If candidates are not awarded at the external or university level, they may then be considered eligible for the CFA Award. Max. award: $10,000 to unit for teaching release. CFA Faculty Research Grants
The College of Fine Arts Faculty Research Grants complement reputable external and university grant opportunities. These grants are awarded on a competitive basis to stimulate and encourage faculty research. Both individual and intra/interdisciplinary group submissions are welcomed. Proposals may be awarded up to $7,000. Faculty members must submit documentation of a recent rejection from a reputable external or university grant to be considered for a CFA Faculty Research Grant. CFA Research Continuity and Development Grant
The CFA Research Continuity and Development Grant is awarded on a competitive basis. Its purpose is to provide funding which supports continuous research development and output for Fine Arts faculty. The maximum award is $2,000. Areas of research that are supported with this grant are:
- Supplementary fund to a larger project, which has already demonstrated a substantial progress, with specific and realistic plans for the completion of the project.
- Travel for research and scholarly activities.
- Smaller projects that are difficult to be competitive with for other research funds.
- Expenses that are difficult to find funding sources for. Preference will be given to projects/expenses that are not qualified for CFA Faculty Research Grant and Faculty Small Research Grant Programs from Vice President for Research.
CFA Research Continuity and Development Grand Application
Deans Research Dissemination Travel Fund
The CFA offers funds on a first-come, first-serve basis for projects requiring travel–related, dissemination. Applications will be received beginning EOD, June 1, 2026 for AY2027-2028 and cycle until all allotted funding is allowed for this program.
The maximum funding awarded is $1500, with an approved $500 contribution from the applicant’s unit, and $1000 contribution from the college.

Pre-tenure Professional Development Fund
The CFA offers funds for the professional development of tenure-line faculty members in their probationary period, as well as the CFA's Morales Fellows. Each eligible faculty member has access to $750.00. Click here to access the CFA Pre-tenure Professional Development Fund Application.
CFA Arts & Health Faculty Fellow Award
The College of Fine Arts Research Development Program will award one faculty fellowship beginning Aug 1 to faculty demonstrating exceptional scholarship and develop tangible impact in Arts and Health. Aligned with the University of Utah’s Impact 2030 strategy and the College of Fine Arts strategic plan for building research in Arts and Health. Faculty research from this program will strengthen community partnerships and opportunities for public health and social innovation through interdisciplinary team science for the overall goal of becoming a top 10 public university with unsurpassed societal impact.
Supported from the Office of Research in the College of Fine Arts, and the Arts & Health Innovation Lab, the recipient will engage in dedicated arts and health assigned research time and activities as part of their research load. Recipients may also request a specified release time from teaching (1-course/3-credit hours/.25 FTE equivalent) from their Chair/Director. Note that a course release is not guaranteed and is contingent on the needs of the unit and available funding. Recipients are awarded a research stipend of $1000 to fund expenses to present at and attend the national a2ru conference and engage with its arts &health working group in year 2.
An additional allocation of $1500 research project costs over the full term of the fellowship are also included. (See budget guidelines). The CFA Fellowship in Arts & Health term is 3 years of research-focused activity with research coaching and mentorship in arts and social science, research design, project development and management, and extramural grant activity. Recipients will learn how to develop and design rigorous studies in quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods and arts-based approaches in the first year; Learn how to develop and work within interdisciplinary/cross-college and campus/community projects, implement a pilot project in the second year, and disseminate, and apply for extramural grant opportunities in the final year.
Eligibility Criteria
- Faculty considering this fellowship must consult with their Chair/Director prior to submission.
- All full-time CFA faculty (tenure-line). (Can be considered if leave time for research is pending or is already approved).
- Applicants for 2026 must have a record of scholarship in Arts and Health area of Inquiry or related Discipline.
- Applicants must be able to commence their fellowship by Aug 1, 2027
- Applicants must not have outstanding progress reports from the University of Utah for research development programs.
- Applicants must commit to joining the a2ru arts & health working group in year 1, and continued participation as part of the CFA’s organizational membership.
- Applicants must commit to attending and presenting at the a2ru national conference in years 2 and/or 3 of fellowship.
- Applicants must commit to individual and cohort-based research upskill and advanced professional and leadership development training in arts and social science research.
- Faculty members must not have been awarded a CFA course release within the past year and should not be eligible for a leave/sabbatical of departmentally awarded course release during the fellowship term.
- Faculty members receiving course load credit or a course release for serving in administrative roles, such as Director of Graduate Studies, may still apply with support of their Chair/Director. Faculty members may only apply for one Fellowship.
- If a faculty member is rejected, that member may re-submit their application in the next available cycle.

Required Application Materials:
- Letter of support from Chair or Director.
- Research Statement including areas of research strength and research development needs/interests (1 page). Include a statement that consultation with Chair/Director occurred and date of occurrence.
- Research narrative of proposed project (1 page).
- Budget narrative (1 page/template).

- Font must be 12pt, times or Calibri, single-spaced. References/bibliography can be included at the end, in addition to application page content.
