Join the University of Utah Department of Art & Art History for an exhibition celebrating the legacy of two artists and educators who made an extraordinary impact on campus: Sam Wilson and Tony Smith.

Showcasing works from both artists' careers, the exhibition runs October 16 (with a special opening event 5p - 7p) through November 1 in the Gittins Gallery.

Emeritus Professor Roger “Sam” Wilson taught art at the U from 1987 to 2014. “He dedicated his life to shaping young artists by helping them discover their full potential,” said professor V. Kim Martinez. “His gentle, compassionate, and humorous nature immediately put young artists at ease, and he quickly became a mentor to many of us.”

Professor Tony Smith's tenure at the U, from 1968 to 2004 also had profound impact.

“He was unbelievably talented as both an artist and a teacher.  While he no longer walks with us, his inspiration to believe in yourself and to pursue and cultivate your driving passions is a message that will live on,” said alumna and adjunct professor Lindsay Frei.
