On September 15, the University Academic Advising Committee announced that the August Academic Advisor of the Month is College of Fine Arts’ Senior Academic Advisor Jennifer McLaurin. Advisor of the Month is an award in which staff on campus who have academic advising roles can give their advising peers recognition for their ability to go above and beyond in their roles and with students.
Those that nominated Jennifer had the following things to share:
-
Jennifer has been incredibly generous with their time, expertise, and advice, making sure that their students got the help they needed to register and make informed decisions.
-
This advisor’s professionalism and kindness have made them an ideal colleague and minimized the impact of their colleagues' newness and lack of experience for the students.
-
Jennifer was instrumental in coordinating the CFA’s orientation program for incoming students.
-
One of Jennifer’s colleagues described Jennifer this way: “I always felt like this advisor was listening to me, and they would often reply, “that’s valid”, which I really liked (it made me feel like my opinion mattered and was considered).
We join the UAAC in applauding Jennifer. Bravo!
