Department of Film & Media Arts alumna Beth Kearsley (Film BFA ‘21) visited Austin, TX for the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival to promote new film, “Remaining Native.” Kearsely served as Associate Editor for the coming-of-age documentary which is told from the perspective of Ku Stevens, a 17-year-old Native American runner, struggling to navigate his dream of becoming a collegiate athlete as the memory of his great grandfather's escape from an Indian boarding school begins to connect past, present, and future.
Directed by Paige Bethmann, “Remaining Native” received Special Jury and Audience Awards. In addition to being premiered at the SXSW Festival in Austin, the film was also shown in festivals in Massachusetts, Greensboro, Reno, Dallas, San Rafael, and New York City.
