School of Dance MFA alumni Stephanie García (Modern Dance MFA '23 & Co-Founder/Co-Director of PROArtes México) and Samuel Hanson (Fine Arts BUS '11 & Executive Director of loveDANCEmore) are teaming up to present Corriente Alterna (Alternative Current), an international performing art series celebrating traditional to contemporary multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary Mexican, Chicanx, and Latinx dance, theater, and performance art makers from Mexico and the United States.
The series is composed of eleven performances by artists and companies from Utah, Texas, and Mexico including Aguilas Mexican Folk Dancing Company, Allegiant Dance Crew owned by Leslie Jara (Modern Dance BFA '24), A Poc A Poc, Bailes y Folclore Danzas Chile, Ballet Nuevas Raíces Bolivia, JADEJ, Jorge Rojas, José Villalobos, Porta Teatro, Punto de Inflexión, and Roxanne Gray (Modern Dance MFA '25).
Supporters include Creative West, the Utah Division of Arts & Museums, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, Springville Museum of Art, RDT Link Series, and Mexico's Cultural Creation and Projects Support System by Mexico’s Culture Ministry.
