The works of Professor V. Kim Martinez and Associate Professor Xi Zhang from the Department of Art & Art History's Painting & Drawing area are featured in Artsy Viewing Rooms until 8/31.
V. Kim Martinez's "Mujeres de Colores" gallery features superheroic female characters fragmented from important figures present throughout the artist’s life. These women are part real, part imagined, reconstructed from the memories and experiences of being a woman of color.
Xi Zhang's "XI ZHANG: Double Reflection II" gallery explores the psychological weight of turmoil and tribulation. Combining styles and techniques of the East and West, Zhang’s paintings are inspired by both the water-colored mountains of antique Chinese scrolls and the gestural brushstrokes of American abstract expressionists.
