A nurturing atmosphere that encourages strong educational and personal values along with outstanding achievement. U Theatre’s Adj. Assis. Prof. & Artistic Dir. Youth Theatre Penny Caywood leads these programs for 1st through 12th grades.
Now - 8/18 | SLAC's Summer Show: Close Encounters in the Beehive
Directed by Cynthia Fleming. Written by U Music alumna Olivia Custodio, U Theatre Production Manager David Knoell and U Theatre Adjunct Assistant Professor & Artistic Director of Youth Theatre Penelope Caywood, enjoy a comedic, out-of-this-world romp in the Beehive State.
Now - 9/24 | Red Butte Garden’s Outdoor Concert Series 2024
The much anticipated concert series is back with even more musical legends! Throughout July, listen to Grammy-winning artists like Lyle Lovett and His Large Band, SLASH, Melissa Etheridge & Jewel, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo. Equally notable bands like The Beach Boys, Gipsy Kings, Pink Martini, Buena Vista Social Club, and more take the stage in August and September. Public tickets are on sale now and are separate from the garden membership.
7/10 - 7/14 | American Society for Alexander Technique's 2024 Annual Conference & General Meeting
Participants can experience five days of workshops and gatherings at the University of Utah's Kahlert Village. Adjunct Instructor Chandler Vaccaro is on the planning committee and Adjunct Associate. Professor Jacque Lynn Bell will present her work with teaching theater and Alexander Technique.
7/15 - 7/26 | Dance West Fest at Marriott Center for Dance and the Rose Wagner Center for the Performing Arts
A two week dance workshop held annually in July and hosted by the combined efforts of three of Salt Lake City’s established artistic entities: Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, Repertory Dance Theatre, and U Dance. Guest artists include alumni, faculty, and staff from: U Theatre (Department Chair Chris DuVal, Assistant Professor of Directing Alexandra Harbold, Lighting Designer Pilar I. Davis), U Screendance (Assistant Professor Kym McDaniel), U Dance (Professor Luc Vanier, Professor Pamela Geber Handman, Tom Welsh, Lauren Curley, Eileen Rojas, Allison Shir, Assistant Professor Molly Heller, Nicholas Cendese), and more!
7/18 - 8/10 | Sundance Summer Theatre Presents “Newsies” at Sundance Resort
The Sundance Summer Theatre has been a tradition since 1970. Set beneath the shadow of Mount Timpanogos, productions provide an enchanting experience unlike any other. U Theatre’s Assistant Professor and Head of the Musical Theatre Area, Erin Farrell Spear, will choreograph “Newsies,” which is based on the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City and tells the inspiring story of the newsboys and newsgirls who stood up against powerful publishers to demand fair treatment.
7/27 - 7/28 | Urban Arts Festival at The Gateway in Downtown Salt Lake City
Rooted in the social and cultural life of the community, Urban Arts Festival provides a platform for cultural art, music, and performance.

Want to enjoy an artsy evening with the family, but don’t know where to start? UMFA has pre-planned activities that will interest young folks and adults alike. Paint a nightscape in Antelope Island State Park, sculpt your imaginary community at the John Wesley Powell River History Museum, construct your own book at the Salt Lake City Library, or try your hand at watercolor landscapes at the Chapman Library. Be inspired by traditional Japanese art and art history as you create gyotaku fish rubbings and construct a miniature folding screen.
