Students and faculty from the College of Fine Arts' School of Dance and Department of Art & Art History were highlighted in the Lassonde Institute's annual publication, "Student Innovation at the U." Their research projects revealed new insights into dance, film, science, and history and focused on change-making through the arts by addressing accessibility, healthcare, and well-being.
- "Exploring Local Greek History" – Alexia Maikidou Poutrino (Modern MFA '25), explored local Greek history and utilized Screendance — a hybrid art form that merges dance and film — to create a film that brings new life to the Greek community’s archival materials.
- "From Atoms To Art" – Kirsten Rye (Ballet BFA, Chemistry BS, Ecology and Legacy minor in Honors College '25) was inspired by physicist Richard Feynman’s idea of the creative scientist to explore the connection between chemistry and ballet in her honors thesis, “Choreography Through the Eyes of a Chemist."
- "Fixing Accessibility Barriers" – Ada Popham, (Art BFA, Book Arts Emphasis '25) has dedicated her time to advocating for improved accessibility on campus. by documenting inaccessible doors on campus using photography to highlight barriers and promote inclusivity.
- "Creating Societal Change Through Art" – Courtney Buss (Art Teaching BFA and Illustration minor) and Adjunct Assistant Professor Sydney Porter Williams collaborated with undergraduate students to co-create a socially engaged, interactive exhibition at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts in their "Art. Community. Museum. Education. (ACME) Lab gallery space."
