Lien Fan Shen appointed as new Associate Dean for Faculty & Academic Affairs

Please join us in giving Film & Media Arts’ Associate Professor, Lien Fan Shen, a warm welcome as she takes on her new appointment as the College of Fine Arts’ Associate Dean for Faculty & Academic Affairs.

Starting July 1, 2023, Shen joins the Dean’s Cabinet in service of the college’s faculty and their commitment to generating and transferring creative knowledge.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to have been appointed as the Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs in the College of Fine Arts. I am truly grateful to Dean Scheib and the Dean's Cabinet for giving me this opportunity to serve in this important role,” she said. “I am excited and eager to start this new chapter in my career and to work with the talented faculty and staff in the College of Fine Arts. I am committed to supporting the faculty in their teaching and research endeavors, and to ensuring that our students have the resources and support they need to succeed. I am also committed to working with the Dean's office to develop and implement policies and procedures that promote a fair and equitable environment for all members of the College community. I am confident that we can continue to build on the College's strong reputation for academic excellence and creative innovation.”

Shen earned her PhD in Art Education at The Ohio State University and MFA in Computer Art from School of Visual Arts. Her creative work includes graphic novels, animation, and digital arts. Her animated documentary “Seeing Through the Eyes of Crocodiles” was screened in Bejing Queer Film Festival, Shanghai Pride Film Festival, TWIST Seattle Queer Film Festival, and Boston LGBT film festival. Her graphic novel “I will be Your Paradise,” a pioneer work about queer youth in Taiwan, was re-serialized in 2020. Her recent work “The 21st Century Girls and Their Romance,” a story about gender non-conforming youth’s struggle in Taiwan, was published on Creative Comic Collection in 2022.

She is the recipient of College of Fine Arts Faculty Research Excellence Award in 2017, and an honoree of Celebrate U, Extraordinary Faculty Achievements Award in 2016 and 2017.
