Are you graduating in Fall 2023?

Take part in the University's first Fall Grad Bash on Dec. 5 from 3-5pm at the Cleone Peterson Eccles Alumni House.  Grad Bash is a special celebration for students who have applied for Fall 2023 graduation. This is an opportunity to say goodbye to your fellow students as you leave to embrace “the real world” as a proud U alum. The event will be a time to savor the memories, enjoy some fantastic perks, and kickstart your journey as a U graduate. The celebration will feature free food, photo opportunities with various backgrounds, professional headshots, and grad gifts (while supplies last).

Countdown to The College of Fine Arts Convocation

College of Fine Arts Class of 2024!

Congratulations on starting your final semesters here at the University of Utah.  Though Commencement and Convocation seem in the far future, there are things that we can share with you now to help you prepare.  Please check back regularly as we will update this page as more information becomes available.  In 2024, you will see a lot more information as we near important deadlines and the end of the academic year.  Here are some things we know at this time:

  • Be sure to register for graduation!  You can do this on your Student page in CIS.  Information can also be found on the University Registrar's Graduation page.  Please register for graduation by the deadline for the semester that you plan to graduate.  The deadlines are as follows:

Spring 2024:  January 19, 2024

Summer 2024:  May 22, 2024

Fall 2024: August 30, 2024

Before registering for graduation, it is highly encouraged that you meet with one of the CFA Academic Advisors to make sure graduation requirements will be met on time.  You may schedule a virtual or in-person appointment at

  • The College of Fine Arts Convocation Ceremony will take place on May 3 at 12pm.  The ceremony will take place in Kingsbury Hall in President's Circle.  Students that graduated in Summer or Fall 2023, or are planning to graduate in any semester in 2024 may participate. (Please note that this differs slightly from the University Commencement participation cutoffs)
  • The University Commencement Ceremony will take place on May 2 at 6pm.  This ceremony will take place at the Huntsman Center.  More information can be found on the University Commencement page.  This ceremony is for students who graduated in Summer or Fall 2023, and are planning on graduating in Spring 2024
  • The CFA Convocation is a ticketed event.  We do not know how many tickets each graduate will receive.  The number of tickets given is controlled by the venue and will determine the number of tickets offered to each graduate participating in the ceremony.  If you will not be registering for graduation by January 19, 2024 and want to participate in Convocation, please let your Department or School's Front Office know so that we can include you in the ticket distribution count.
  • Grad Fair will happen at the Campus Store from April 4-6, 2024 during their normal business hours.  Students will be able to order regalia (i.e. cap and gown) beginning March 1, 2024 on the Campus Store website.  The Grad Fair is an excellent time to purchase or pick up pre-ordered regalia, receive special savings on diploma frames, order custom announcements and class rings, and have photos taken by a professional photographer.  Mark your calendar now for this event.
  • Below are items of interest from the 2023 CFA Convocation if you would like to get a feel for the days' events.  While it won't look exactly the same, it will give you an idea of what to expect.

Congratulations to the Class of 2023!!!!
